The unlikely group of strangers decides to investigate and make a gruesome discovery. With police spread thin it is up to them to retrace Craig’s steps before it is too late.
My Thoughts
Fast paced and action packed, Christy Barrett excels in crime drama. I was relieved at the noticeable lack of plot holes all too common with this genre. As a true crime, fan the idea behind the plot I found most interesting and unique.
I was disappointed in Andi’s character. She is abrasive and annoying. Add in the female version of short-man syndrome and irrational responses and you have a glimpse of what you are in for. My only hope is that her character grows and changes in the sequel. Although I found her character so distasteful I’m not rushing to grab the sequel just yet.
The spiritual aspects of this novel are dubious as best. The villain has a twisted and warped sense of who God is. Unfortunately the main characters do little to contrast that view. Andi is a former Christian who now only places faith in herself, believing God is just a concept. Duke lived most of his life for himself until finding God two years ago. He has a decent conversion story but comparing and contrasting their beliefs is as far as it goes.
Content
Spiritual Content– minimal. Andi has turned her back on God. Duke is a believer but not regularly attending church. The murderer is a religious physco who believes murder is okay because it is his redemption. He sings hymns while carrying out his crimes.
Violence– moderate. It’s a crime novel. Murder and violence throughout but not overly detailed.
Cursing-None
Sexual Content– Andi has a coworker who is predatory and tries to rape her.
Red Flag rating 🚩
Andi gets 1 red flag. Quick to take offense, with a chip on her shoulder and out for vengeance. I would call that your basic starter pack for relationship problems.
