Chances are if you clicked on this post, you either have a fool in your life or you want to know what to do to keep them out. Jan Silvious takes you on a journey into Proverbs to discover how to recognize, relate and wise up to your fool.
In many Christian circles the only teaching we hear on fools is Matthew 5:22 and we skip over the other 64 times fool is mentioned. Our general relationship advice does nothing to prepare us when we encounter fools, yet God gave clear instructions on how to recognize and respond to them.
There is more than one type of fool, from the simple, to the mocker. Jan Silvious will give you the tools you need to recognize each one and a biblical response to them.
I read this book alongside Lundy Bancrofts secular book Why Does He Do That, Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men. Why Does He Do That takes you inside the mind of an abuser, a dark place indeed. It was easy to see how the fool described in Proverbs and in Fool Proofing Your Life matched up. There was great comfort in seeing how often God does address this type of person in scripture.
Because Fool Proofing Your Life addresses life with more than one type of fool, it’s important to note that not all advice pertains to an abusive relationship. We all have fools in different areas of our life. It might be a boss, friend, colleague, family member or child. Whatever situation you are in, this book will give you insight into what God has to say and how we respond to them.
If you are in an abusive relationship I encourage you to start looking at resources that will help you untangle the lies you might believe that are keeping you in your situation. Good Boundaries and Goodbyes by Lysa Terkeurst and Enough is Enough by Dr David E Clark are excellent resources.
