Christmas time is a busy time of year, leaving less time for leisure reading. While many curl up to watch Christmas movies, in recent years I’ve intentionally sought out Christmas themed books.
Many Christmas novels and novellas are romance driven plots, so it as with much delight when I discovered ‘Twas The Night.
Synopsis
Ransom and Emma have lived their entire lives in the woods of North Carolina cut off from the outside world. Before their father passes he tells them they must soon leave the only home they know and head for the city. Battling grief the two young children set off with no idea how long they will have to travel.
Theresa has suffered a loss greater than most could imagine. Christmas time no longer holds any joy for her and grief is lurking around every corner. Encouraged by her pastor to start over somewhere new, Theresa moves to the small town of Black Rock, North Carolina.
Bud, sheriff deputy, is surprised when his quiet town is suddenly plagued with a serial burglar and is intrigued by the newest resident.
My Thoughts
While I enjoy a sweet Hallmark-In-Book-Form Christmas novel, I love stories that are more relatable to our own experiences. Sometimes the Holidays are difficult. We might be in a season of grief or difficult change. Twas the Night explores that, while bringing hope for healing and a future.

‘Twas the night is a wonderful short novella. I quickly realized it was going to be one of those stories that ends too soon. Although much to my delight it has a sequel that is a full length book called What’s Best For Them.
